Golflight Savings Time

By Greg Johnson

In the Gaylord Golf Mecca, we call it Golflight Savings Time instead of Daylight Savings Time.

We are on the golf side of the Eastern Time Zone, which cutting to the chase means you can play golf until almost 10 p.m. on many summer nights.

One of the great concerns with golf is that it takes a little too much precious time to play, but with our 17 extraordinary member courses at nine properties, including resorts, 21 lodging partners and a vibrant Gaylord summer fun area, we make your play time precious.

On a recent golf trip, we played in the morning at Treetops Resort on the Premier course designed by Tom Fazio, and then settled bets on the huge putting green with a little more friendly competition. Then we hit the Sports Bar on top of the hill.

It was a perfect evening topped off by a great sunset, but before that we realized after 9 p.m. that we could have still been playing. Here’s the thing: It doesn’t have to be just a few extra holes near the end of the day, or even a putting match to settle bets in the Gaylord Golf Mecca. It can be a lot of holes. We could have played 36, had a putting match and still hit the Sports Bar if so inclined. The Gaylord Golf Mecca gives you more in so many ways.

Did we talk about the sunsets yet? Those sunsets are worth the wait, especially if you are on the way in from a great round of golf or sitting on one of the decks that overlook the world-class collection of No. 18 holes at the member courses of the Mecca.

The deck at Indian River Golf Club or The Natural at Beaver Creek Resort, along with the view from the lodge at Otsego Resort, are unforgettable settings late into the day, but just three of many.

The point here: Nobody is rushing you off the golf course late in the evening in the Mecca, not even the sunsets.

Those in the know realize that up Gaylord way on a quiet, beautiful Northern Michigan evening, it just might be the best time to play. Tee off at 5 or so and you can play 18. It doesn’t have to be the old quick nine or emergency nine either. The sun likes shining down on the Mecca so much that it stays out late like the golfers. It takes its time going to bed.

Golf doesn’t take too much time in the Mecca. Go fishing, play softball, enjoy some water sports or shopping along Gaylord’s welcoming downtown streets, and then play golf. If you want it all, you can do it all.

Come to the Mecca this summer. Play some golf. Hang out on a boat. Play some more. Visit a local brewery, or one of the great restaurants at our world class resorts or throughout our community. Watch the sun finally set.

Golf packages are available in the Mecca that beat all rivals well into the evening. Learn more at gaylordgolfmecca.com or by calling 800-345-8621.
