Michaywé Launches New Caddie Program Providing Youth Evans Scholarship Opportunities

It takes a special golf course to play host to two Michigan Amateur Championships (1991 and 1996) and even a more special place that creates programs to impact youth like the new caddie program being launched at Michaywé in 2016. Having a true caddie program is a throwback to the game during a time when caddies were prevalent throughout many courses across the country, before the onslaught of golf carts.
The Michaywé Pines Course is one of northern Michigan’s most popular golfing stops. This classic parkland design features secluded fairways winding through the beautiful white birch and pine forests along the AuSable River, and it’s a perfect course to walk and take a caddie.
The caddie program is geared towards offering a unique northern Michigan golf experience while giving local youth the opportunity to learn more about golf, earn some money, and potentially being able to apply for the Evans Scholarship program.
IMG_6286blogbThe Evans Scholarship program was founded by the Western Golf Association (WGA) and specifically famed golfer Chick Evans Jr. in 1929. Evans asked the WGA to administer a fund he had established some years earlier to send deserving caddies to college. Today, more than 840 caddies are attending one of 19 universities on a Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship. The scholarship covers full tuition and housing costs for up to four years. A wonderful opportunity for youth.
